Ways you Can Help
Your support helps define our success here at Harrington. We take pride in creating exciting galas, fund raisers, open houses and charity events. Support from the community has been historically overwhelming. It is with the help of local families and individuals that we are able to continue to bring you upgraded services, new patient rooms, advanced technology and additional physicians.
Charitable Causes
Harrington is involved in numerous fund raising events each year. It is important to stay involved in the local community in order to build a solid foundation with our patients and families and to continue to listen to what needs aren’t yet being served by our ever-growing hospital.
The Cancer Center at Harrington Walkway of Hope Bricks:
The Harrington Hospital Auxiliary invites you to commemorate those who have been touched by cancer. You can memorialize loved ones, family and friends with a beautiful inscribed brick. All proceeds will benefit The Cancer Center at Harrington. Bricks are sold in either 4-inch by 8-inch or 8-inch by 8-inch size and can be inscribed up to three lines.

Dr. Van’s Golf Tournament for Cardiac Rehabilitation
Harrington Hospital and the Southbridge Rotary Club annually hold the Dr. VanVooren’s Annual Golf Tournament at Raceway Golf Course in Thompson, Conn. This tournament has been held for the past 26 years in September with an excellent following of golfers.
Proceeds from the tournament are used to support Harrington’s comprehensive Cardiac Rehabilitation program by providing educational materials, YMCA scholarships & equipment for their patients. Proceeds are also used for the Dr. VanVooren Scholarship, awarded annually to a Harrington employee pursuing a career in the medical field. More than $22,000 has been awarded in scholarships since the tournament began. The Southbridge Rotary Club uses their proceeds for their scholarship fund for area high school students. In 2008, they gave $6,000 in scholarships to local students.
Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Part of Harrington’s community outreach is to educate breast cancer awareness. In September 2009, Harrington, which recently expanded its services into the Webster community, collaborated with Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard to organize a Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run. More than 150 people showed up to give back to their local healthcare organization. More than $12,000 was raised to go back to the Southbridge and Webster mammography departments and The Cancer Center at Harrington.
These generous funds will allow us to support breast cancer awareness through education, advocacy and marketing. In addition, we plan to build a Cancer Resource Room at the new Cancer Center – a local and important outlet for patients or their families who are undergoing cancer treatment programs. A Cancer Resource Room will give the community a place to go for education, support group information and other local resources.
Donations in support of our Mammography Centers or The Cancer Center can be made year round. Checks should be made out to Harrington Hospital Breast Cancer and sent to:

Types of Gifts Accepted
We could not fulfill this mission without your help. At Harrington, we are grateful for local support, donations and participation in fund raising efforts. We offer an array of development and gift-giving options, including:
Unrestricted Gifts
An unrestricted gift is simply a gift to Harrington Hospital with no restrictions from the donor on how it is used. Unrestricted gifts support our work by allowing Harrington flexibility in determining how best to use the funds.
Gifts of Cash
You may make an unrestricted gift of cash, by check or credit card. For more information call 508-765-9771.
Matching Gifts
If your employer has a matching gift program, you might be able to double or triple the size of your gift to Harrington Hospital. Your employer's Human Resources Department will be able to tell you if they offer a matching gift program. They can then provide you with the appropriate matching gift forms, which you can mail to our offices.
Total Local Care Annual Fund
Individuals are encouraged to make annual membership gifts to the Total Local Care Fund. These annual gifts may be directed to a specific program or where the need is most urgent.
Letters of acknowledgment for all gifts received over $100 will be sent out in a timely manner. Acknowledgement letters must clearly state that "no goods or services were received by the donor in return for their charitable contribution" in accordance with IRS substantiation requirements.
