In a stunning show of generosity, Harrington Memorial Hospital employees have pledged more than $84,000 towards the Capital Campaign, raising money for the new expansion / replacement project. Larger operating suites, expanded laboratory space, and a more consumer-friendly patient admissions area are being planned as part of a very ambitious project to prepare for the future. The ultimate goal of this effort is aimed at providing the hospital and medical staff with the facilities and services necessary to continue to meet the medical and healthcare needs of the residents of South Central Massachusetts. HMH needs to continue to improve and keep up with technology in order to be a successful provider of health services. An employee development group has been working for many months to inform employees of the new project and to develop ideas used in the fund-raising effort. Members of the group include Ross Anderson, Ann Beaudry RN, Maureen Carragher, Laura Fortin RN, Nancy Jones, Craig Langevin, Imelda Lundstrom, Marlene Mach, Nevin Montigney, Nancy Rollins, Lynn Zollin, Kenny Simpson, Gloria Gryzbski, Christine Doyle, Marsha Woodard RN, Holly Thornburg and Dawn Sanchez, Development Coordinator. Other groups in the community are currently developing plans for fund-raising. The Auxiliary has already pledge $50, 000 towards the project and has provided the employee group with support for offering prizes and recognitions. Fundraising is an important part of the project. While the hospital does have an endowment and a good "bottom line" it's been pointed out that HMH fiscal reserves would only last about 10 months in the event something unpredictable were to happen. With the healthcare industry so uncertain, particularly in terms of how much or even if we get paid, it is vitally important to all of us that HMH retain as much of this money as possible. Those employees who have not pledged can still do so. The amount given isn't as important as your particiaption! For information or pledge cards, call Dawn Sanchez at ext. 6146 or visit the employees' page.
