State-of-the-Art Wound Care Center Opens in Charlton
Charlton, Mass., July 19, 2010 - The Wound Care Center at Harrington, featuring the region's only state-of-the-art Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers, is now open and accepting appointments for wound-care patients.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is an FDA approved procedure in which a patient breathes 100 percent oxygen while relaxing in a pressurized chamber. The process delivers high concentrations of oxygen to the bloodstream and the wound bed, which helps increase the body's own natural wound-healing abilities and rapidly accelerates the healing process. It is used for select patients with chronic or hard to heal wounds.
The Wound Care Center at Harrington is part of Harrington's newest medical facility, Harrington HealthCare at Charlton, and is located at 10 N. Main Street near the intersection of Route 20. The Wound Care Center at Harrington is an outpatient, hospital-based program that works in conjunction with the patient's primary care physician, serving as an adjunctive service specializing in the treatment of problem wounds. Open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the program operates by appointment and accepts referrals from physicians and other health care providers, families and patients themselves. For an appointment or more information, please call 508-248-6780.
"Harrington is pleased to be able to offer the highest quality patient care for the treatment of problem wounds," said Ed Moore, President and CEO of Harrington HealthCare System, which includes Harrington HealthCare at Charlton. "The Wound Care Center at Harrington features two Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers, which can help speed the healing process. This is the only treatment center in the region with Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers."
The Wound Care Center at Harrington specializes in treatment of chronic and hard to heal wounds, a growing problem spurred by the aging of America and the increase in diabetes. Approximately 21 million Americans have diabetes, and of that population, about 1.8 million will suffer from a problem wound.
Harrington HealthCare at Charlton has joined with Diversified Clinical Services, the leaders in advanced wound care, to create the Wound Care Center at Harrington. In addition to the two Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers, the center features five treatment rooms equipped to meet the specific needs of the wound care patient. The center's professional staff includes physicians and nurses specially trained in wound care and uses a variety of clinical treatments, therapies and support services to treat chronic wounds.
