Providing health services with a state-of-the art facility.
Harrington Memorial, a non-profit institution, officially opened its doors on September 7, 1931, with a capacity of 34 beds, 6 children's cribs, and 13 bassinets. Today, the Hospital has grown to a modern, 113-bed hospital which provides quality health care to a service area of approximately 350 square miles covering 17 towns in South Central Massachusetts and Northeastern Connecticut. The hospital is governed by a volunteer board compromised of community leaders. Our local governance structure means critical health care decisions are made by experts in our community who can respond to local health and community needs. Harrington has a complete range of inpatient medical services (i.e., medical, surgical, ICU/CCU, psychiatric, pediatrics, and Ob/Gyn beds) and a wide range of outpatient services including mental health, substance abuse, occupational medicine, and other programs. We are currently embarking on a major renovation / expansion program (see Development).
The Directors and Trustees of Harrington Memorial Hospital have a responsibility to oversee the organization and assure that this rich community resource is both preserved and responsive to current and future needs of our neighbors. We can assure you that the governance and management of the hospital are strong and committed. You may also take comfort in knowing that the clinical services of the hospital are of the highest quality for a community hospital. Lastly, the financial position of the hospital is in order.
On a personal note, I am proud to note that I was born here at Harrington and care deeply about the hospital.
Michael V. Caplette,
Past Chairman, Board of Directors
