Free Yoga Classes Offered for Cancer Patients and Family Members

SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. – May 12, 2015 – Free yoga classes are being offered to local cancer patients and their families at The Cancer Center at Harrington in Southbridge.

Sharon Palmer, a certified Kripalu yoga teacher and founder of All Can Do Yoga, is offering classes free of charge to help cancer patients and their loved ones.

Studies have shown that a structured yoga practice during cancer treatment can improve physical symptoms such as pain and fatigue. Along with meditation, yoga has also been shown to alleviate depression, anxiety, and insomnia.

Each class features a few moments of centering, then warm-ups, movements and postures, balancing practices, relaxation, and a brief guided meditation.

Modifications are given so that each participant can practice what feels just right for their body.  Patients and their families can enjoy breathing fully, stretching, and strengthening while calming the mind and soothing emotions.

The class is designed to be relaxed and informal to enhance the mind-body connection.

All classes will be held in the multi-purpose room of the first floor of The Cancer Center at Harrington (Radiation Oncology), 55 Sayles Street, in Southbridge. Participants are asked to wait in the waiting room for the instructor prior to class.
