Harrington Healthcare at Hubbard brings wellness, family and fun together

Webster health fair will have plenty to see and do

(WEBSTER, Mass. Aug. 26, 2009) - Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard will host its annual Health Fair on Saturday, Sept. 12, bringing fun and family-friendly events to its Webster campus at 340 Thompson Road.

"Each year I've been organizing the fair, it's gotten a little bigger and a little better, and this year is no exception," Marketing Manager Blaine Schnare said. "The best part about our health fair each year is it's completely free to attend - but there is lots to see and do."

The fair is geared toward every age and provides important health information, access to home care agencies and vendors, and it gives the community a chance to embrace health and wellness.

The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than 15 businesses, organizations and medical departments will be on hand for screenings, consultations and literature. Light refreshments will be served and giveaways will be everywhere. The fair's Gold Sponsor this year is Kindred Healthcare, which will be providing information about pets and rehabilitation.

"We are proud to sponsor this health fair and support the community awareness it brings to helping people improve their health. At Kindred Healthcare, our community involvement is consistent with our company's principles and with our mission of customer service and quality care," said Michelle Williams, Director of Admissions and Marketing for Oakwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Webster.

"A big part of what we try to do at Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard is preventive health and community education," Schnare said. "Our focus is on the health and wellbeing of our community. What better way to capture several different aspects of child and adult health than to have an event like this?"

As in years past, major draws to the fair include the scheduled landing of Life Flight Helicopter -- an exciting attraction that draws advance crowds. (This year, it is expected to touch down at 11 am.). Parents and families can also take advantage of the Masonic Youth Child Identification Program (MYCHIP) for adolescents, run by the Masons of Massachusetts. MYCHIP provides tools to help law enforcement authorities find and identify a lost or missing child, and has helped identify more than 250,000 children since its inception in 1988.

Young children and teenagers have access to the Webster Lions Club Sightmobile, the Smoke House provided by Massachusetts District 7 Fire Department, and fire trucks and ambulances. Families can obtain information on physical therapy and sports medicine, strokes and digital mammography, or get a complimentary chair massage. Health screenings include blood glucose and blood pressure, body fat analysis, scoliosis and spine screenings and sun damage analysis. Information will also be available on senior health and home care, hand washing, the flu and local flu clinics, and estate law preservation.
