Cardiology
Your heart's in the right place when you see one of Harrington's cardiology specialists, who provide patients with cutting-edge, comprehensive, coordinated cardiac care. General and preventive cardiology services are provided by cardiologists in their offices, in the Cardiovascular Center, as part of inpatient hospital service, in the ICCU, and through the cardiac rehabilitation program.
Harrington cardiologists work hand-in-hand with your primary care physician to diagnose, treat, and manage a wide range of cardiac problems, including coronary artery disease, chest pain, arrhythmias, heart murmurs, valvular heart disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, congestive heart failure, and pacemaker therapy.
Through the Cardiovascular Center, our cardiologists offer noninvasive diagnostic tests, including electrocardiography (EKG), echocardiography, stress testing (exercise and chemical), 24-hour holter monitoring, 30-day event monitoring, and nuclear medicine imaging techniques. Inpatients are managed with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment in the medical units and in the ICCU. As needed, patients may be brought to or referred to other tertiary medical centers, such as UMass Memorial Medical Center, for cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, cardiac surgery, and electrophysiology procedures.
Patients are encouraged to play an active role in their care by recognizing the importance of changes in lifestyle, nutrition, and fitness. While this is helpful to all patients, those who have suffered a cardiac event receive the added benefit of joining Harrington Cardiac Rehabilitation, the first such program in Massachusetts. Here, patients participate in specialized exercise, strength-training, counseling, and education sessions with the goal of returning to better health.
The cardiology specialists and staff at Harrington are dedicated to help you keep your heart healthy with their expert medical assistance, technical skills, and friendly guidance.
