Endocrinology
Highly specialized Endocrinologists at Harrington help adult patients deal with a wide range of hormonal disorders and deficiencies. These include: diabetes, thyroid conditions (overactive and underactive), cholesterol disorders, pituitary disease, adrenal disease, calcium disorders, osteoporosis, metabolic bone disease, erectile dysfunction, and obesity.
Patients with thyroid disorders, who have problems losing or gaining weight and suffer from fatigue, undergo comprehensive testing before we develop a management plan that includes medication to slow down or speed up the thyroid gland. We then monitor blood work and make adjustments, as needed. We also manage thyroid nodules through ultrasounds and fine needle biopsies to rule out cancer.
We feature a multidisciplinary approach with varied diagnoses and treatments customized to meet patients' individual needs. Diagnosis includes Laboratory blood work, ultrasound, CT scans, and nuclear medicine. Treatment includes medication for various disorders, insulin management for diabetics, and surgery for diseases such as thyroid cancer.
Personalization is key to our practice, since our patients often have lifelong, chronic conditions such as diabetes, and we strive to work with them using a team approach, serving as their "coach." We try to educate patients and give them the tools needed to manage and monitor care on their own. We also make appropriate referrals to related healthcare specialists such as diabetes educators and dieticians.
