Radiation Oncology Center

The first floor of the center is operated by Radiation Therapy Services (RTS)/21st Century Oncology and opened in June 2009. 21st Century Oncology, Inc. is a leading developer and operator of radiation oncology centers.

RTS offers the latest in radiology treatments, such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT).

Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) utilizes a highly precise radiation system to deliver carefully calculated beams of intense radiation directly into a cancer. Successful IMRT depends both on specialized equipment and on a highly trained team of physicians, physicists, and technologists. 21st Century Oncology has acquired this equipment and assembled such a team.

Image-guided radiation therapy, or IGRT as it is commonly known, evolved from IMRT. IMRT provides far greater beam shaping capabilities than 3D radiation therapy, thereby permitting far more sophisticated treatment. IGRT uses the image of the target (depending upon anatomical area) to guide the delivery of radiation for each and every treatment.

In its more than 20 years of operation, 21st Century Oncology has developed an operating model which enables the company's radiation oncology centers to deliver high quality, cost effective patient care. Currently, the company operates more than 98 radiation oncology centers in 16 states, including Alabama, Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia.
