NOTICE OF PARKING ENFORCEMENT

Recently, the Department of Public Safety has been bombarded by complaints about the parking. These complaints emanate from patients and employees alike.

This is to serve as a reminder to all employees that we are all bound by the rules and regulations of parking on the campus. In summary, yellow spaces are reserved for patients. Further, we are all bound by fire safety rules and regulations and parking in fire lanes, or in a manner to obstruct safety apparatus, will not be tolerated. These actions jeopardize everyone's safety.

Most of you here at Harrington Hospital have complied with the parking rules and we in Public Safety sincerely appreciate that. There is a small core however of habitual offenders and we have no choice but to begin an aggressive campaign against these "scofflaws". Constant excuses include: "there were no other spaces", "I was late", etc. I can tell those of you that feel that way that you are partially correct: parking is indeed "tight" at times. That is precisely why you will find the President / CEO and the Director of Plant Operations parked down in the Sayles Street lot and Director of Public Safety parked out on Oakes Avenue.

Today alone, thirty violations were issued !!!! Since they carry no fine, popular belief is these violations "do not mean anything". On the contrary, please note that all entries are loaded into our central database. Repeat offenders are noted and will be placed on an automatic tow list. In short, once on the list, offenders will be towed without notice.

Please spread the word. We are here for the purpose of serving our patients and that includes leaving them ample room to park. Further, we are all under obligation to leave emergency lanes open for fire apparatus.

ALSO PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING CHANGES:

Over the winter, with all the snow, parking was allowed along the grass. Operations will be seeding and planting the grass along that lot and parking will NO LONGER be allowed there.

The two Handicapped spots in the HERC lot are also off limits unless you have an official handicapped plate / sticker.

Again, thank you to all who have helped us with this situation with your compliance.

John J. Hart
