Visitor Information
A good visitor is a vital part of the health care team at Harrington!
You can be an important link to the patient's personal "world", and minimize the stress which unavoidably accompanies hospitalization. We realize your sincere concern for your friend or family member, and have prepared this information as a guide for your visit. A "good visit" can certainly help reassure and encourage the patient during the recovery period. Unfortunately, a "bad visit" cannot help, and might put obstacles in the way of the healing process. At Harrington, our basic concern is always the treatment, comfort, and safety of the patient.
To insure that your visit will help the patient, try to be "upbeat" and positive.
Some tips for a good visit:- When appropriate, laughter is the best medicine.
- Offer to take care of normal chores such as feed the pets
- Offer to shovel the side walk or mow the lawn
- Put fresh linens on the bed at home
- Give a ride to those who need transportation to visit the patient
Always remember that healing involves rest and quiet, as well as the attention of caring visitors. We have found that some patients are reluctant to ask visitors to leave; even when they get tired. It will help if you are sensitive to this.
If you follow the hospital procedures described here and understand that they were developed in the best interests of our patients, your visit can be the best medicine in the world!
Please remember:
The hospital is a smoke free environment.
