Did you know...?

We have one of the few hospitals in the country with a Volunteer management team running the Gift Shop

That in the past year of 2004, volunteers gave a total of 41,521.75 hours of service equaling a dollar value (national hourly rate based on a full time employee salary) (FTE) based on the independent sector rate which is equal to the dollar value of $728,706.71.

That all the dollars earned by the Gift Shop are given to the Auxiliary and they presented the Auxiliary with $40,000 last October, 2004.

That the Auxiliary gives $12,000.00 annually in Scholarships to those students entering into the medical field?

That the Appropriations Committee gives approximately $35,000.00 a year to hospital departments through the grant process?

That every newborn baby here at Harrington receives a baby blanket and hat made by the Knitting and Crocheting Committee?

That the Volunteer Dept. schedules all doctors, nurses, clergy, social workers, chiropractors, dietician and lay volunteers for Christian Medical Services, our free medical service in town?

That our sewers make bright colored hospice gowns for all hospice patients.

That our Patient Care Volunteer purchases hair conditioner, hairbrushes, combs, shower powder, denture adhesive, hearing aid batteries, playing cards, deodorants and anything else a patient may need during their stay at HMH. These are distributed at the patients' request.

A big Warm Thank You to our HMH Volunteers. We are very fortunate to have such wonderful Volunteer support here at Harrington. When I think of our Volunteers, it always brings a smile to my face because these are people who come to give of their time, energy, and gifts to improve daily services. They are more than willing to give back to their community.

What I really want to do is THANK ALL THE VOLUNTEERS for their time and energy given on a daily, weekly or monthly basis to our hospital. This also includes our Board of Trustees as they are Volunteers too! Think of their dedication when the snow is coming down, it is rainy and cold, or really hot and they still get out of bed and come to the hospital.
THREE CHEERS FOR OUR VOLUNTEERS!!
