Happy Nutrition Month! Meet Your Dietitians

During National Nutrition Month, we wanted to take the time to let you “get to know” our Dietitians and the wonderful work they do for our inpatients , outpatients, and our community!

Here are just  some of the things our Dietitians do on a daily basis:

Kirsten McEvoy, RDN, LDN
Clinical Nutrition Manager

Kirsten completed her undergraduate and dietetic internship at UMass Amherst. She has been at Harrington for just about four years. Her role here is to work with the clinical staff on the patient units, making recommendations for patient care plans related to nutrition while also educating inpatients on their special diets. She also helps to assist the department manager and production manager oversee the patient meal program “Just For You”,  a room service style meal program offered to inpatients. In addition, she oversees the outpatient nutrition service areas and oversees the new dietetic internship program through ARAMARK.

Kirsten enjoys running, yoga, and teaching her 2 young children about healthy eating and staying active.

Her favorite meal to prepare with them is homemade pizza. Her kids enjoy playing with the dough, and getting a little messy. This can be a healthy meal alternative to takeout pizza for them as well.

 

Catherine Page, RDN, LDN
Outpatient Nutritionist

Catherine completed her undergraduate and dietetic internship at Framingham State University. She is currently working on completing her Master’s  degree in nutrition education. She plans to obtain a certified diabetic educator certificate upon completing her program. She has been at Harrington for just about 4 years. Her role here is to work with the clinical staff on the patient units, making recommendations for patient care plans related to nutrition while also educating inpatients on their special diets  (she covers weekends and days off). She is also the Southbridge campus outpatient dietitian seeing several patients per day and educating them on healthy eating plans whether related to weight management , disease, and or both. Many patients rave about Catherine and come to see her many times with follow up appointments. Catherine also oversees and facilitates an outpatient weight loss group here on campus.

Catherine’s other roles within the department are to assist with community outreach, help facilitate our department’s Lean committee and initiatives (not food related), help to supervise staff on the weekends, and facilitate our weekly staff “huddles”.

Catherine enjoys running and is currently training for a 10K!

 

Kassi Swallow, RDN, LDN
Outpatient Nutritionist

Kassi completed her undergraduate and dietetic internship at the University of Maine. She has been at Harrington for just about a year. Her role here is to work with the clinical staff on the patient units, making recommendations for patient care plans related to nutrition while also educating inpatients on their special diets (she covers weekends and days off). She is also the outpatient dietitian for our Webster and Charlton campus, seeing several patients per day and educating them on healthy eating plans whether related to weight management , disease, and or both.

Kassi’s  other roles within the department are to assist with community outreach, and help supervise staff on the weekends.

She has written a few blogs and articles for the hospital’s website and the employee newsletter. She is an active member of the hospital’s Wellness Council and enjoys contributing to that committee.

Kassi enjoys cooking, especially vegetarian meals. She also enjoys blogging about nutrition and has even had some of her recipes published in magazines.

She is an avid hockey fan and her husband coaches for Nichols College in Dudley.

Her new favorite restaurant is Kaizen in Sturbridge, which she recently discovered.

 

And finally, new this year, Harrington has been mentoring  two interns from the ARAMARK intern program.  In collaboration with ARAMARK, the interns will have completed over 1,200 clinical hours by May 2015.

 

Courtney Saia

Courtney completed her undergraduate in nutrition at Simmons College and is a certified Pilates instructor in her home town of New Bedford.  She currently has her own personal training business.

Her favorite food is lobster and any kind of seafood.

 

Hallie Berger

Hallie completed her undergraduate in nutrition at Westchester University in Pennsylvania, her home town.  Hallie takes a personal interest in gluten free and allergy education.

She enjoys karaoke and refereeing soccer. Since moving to Massachusetts, her new favorite restaurant is EVO in Worcester.
