Children’s Hospital Boston to Begin Pediatric Teleradiology at Harrington Hospital

SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. – June 18, 2010 – Radiologists at Childrens Hospital (CH) Radiology will provide advanced pediatric teleradiology to Harrington Hospital, under an agreement between the two hospitals and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC).

“We are proud to work with Childrens Hospital Radiology and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in order to provide pediatric radiology readings for our patients,” said Ed Moore, Harrington Hospital President and CEO. “This relationship gives Harrington patients continued assurance that they are receiving the best care possible.”

“As Harrington Hospital performs sophisticated, cross-sectional exams, and at the request of some of our physicians, we wanted to bring the leader in pediatric imaging services – Childrens Hospital Radiology – to Harringtons patients and families,” said Jeff Bernard, Community Radiology Network Services Manager at BIDMC.

Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at BIDMC work within Harringtons Radiology Department to provide advanced and comprehensive diagnostic imaging services in Harringtons Southbridge, Webster and Charlton locations. Seven days a week, BIDMC provides on-site and remote-reads of CT and MRI scans, ultrasound exams, mammograms, bone density screenings, nuclear medicine studies, and X-Rays through the digital transmission of images via a Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS).

The agreement with Childrens Hospital Radiology, effective June 17, allows Childrens Hospital Boston radiologists to view radiographs, CTs and MRIs in their Boston campus for review and interpretation. CH Radiology will then provide a prompt, full report to the patients physician at Harrington.

Childrens Hospital Boston is an internationally renowned center for medical research and treatment and one of the only pediatric hospitals nationwide that focuses on pairing world-class research with clinical resources to develop novel therapies to treat and cure children.
