WEBSTER, Mass. – May 1, 2013- Quiet Corner Travel, located in Putnam, Conn., recently donated a four-night cruise for two to the Bahamas as a generous gesture to support the campaign to rebuild the Emergency Department at Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard in Webster.
The trip was part of a fund raising effort to engage the employees to support the campaign. Staff was able to buy chances for the prize and the winner was drawn at the annual employee gala, held this year in March at the Sturbridge Host Hotel. The ticket sales raised $1,768 toward the campaign, which has a $4 million match.
“Quiet Corner Travel feels very strongly about giving back and supporting other organizations that help our basic human needs,” said Shari McKusick, owner of Quiet Corner Travel. “Assisting Harrington HealthCare System in their fundraising efforts for a new emergency room is something which we are proud to participate. Having a local hospital with a state of the art emergency room that doesnt require a long drive to a nearby city is a blessing to many and Harrington has shown they are a trusted healthcare provider.”
To date, the campaign has raised more than $1.2 million from the community, individuals and businesses. With the match, the campaign has more than $2.4 million toward its $8 million goal.
Harrington HealthCare at Hubbards Emergency Department is the focal point of healthcare in Webster, Dudley, Oxford, Douglas, Thompson and surrounding communities in South Central Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut. The Emergency Department in Webster sees more than 12,000 patient visits a year, but has not had a substantial overhaul since it was constructed in 1955.
