As the incoming president of Harrington’s Auxiliary, I thought this would be a good time to tell you a little about our services.
While auxiliaries play an important part in hospital life, the volunteers that make up an auxiliary usually work behind the scenes. Because of this, many may not know much about the Harrington Auxiliary, or even know what an auxiliary is.
By definition, “auxilians” are “people engaged in helping and healing.” I have been a member of the auxiliary at Harrington for over 30 years and can say that this could not be truer for the hardworking people of the Harrington Auxiliary.
The Harrington Auxiliary, founded in 1932, is a group of passionate volunteers focused on making Harrington the best hospital in the region. In the 83 years that the Auxiliary has been running, it has provided funding for numerous pieces of equipment, held many fundraiser events, awarded scholarships to local students, and created community outreach programs.
Some of the Auxiliary’s recent accomplishments include:
The Auxiliary at Harrington also has the pleasure of running Harrington on Wheels, Harrington’s colorful recreational vehicle that is outfitted with medical equipment and travels throughout our service region, providing screenings as well as health resources. In addition, the Auxiliary runs the Harrington gift shop on its Southbridge campus.
I have been a resident of Southbridge my whole life and am extremely proud of Harrington and this community. It brings me great joy to serve as the Harrington Auxiliary President, and I am excited to continue the great work of my predecessor, Betsy Peppel.
