”Free To Dance” Program Offered for Middle School And High School Girls

SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass., Feb. 7, 2012 — Attention middle school and high school girls. Would you like to learn to dance salsa — and get fit — for free?

Harrington Hospital, part of Harrington HealthCare System, is offering a free salsa dance program for high school and middle school girls in the region at its Southbridge campus on Friday afternoon and evenings. The classes, called “Free To Dance” are Feb. 17, Feb. 24 and March 2. The classes for middle school girls are 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. each of those Fridays. Classes for high school girls are 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Theres no need to register in advance. Just go to the front lobby of the hospital, at 100 South Street, and ask for Conference Room 1, where the classes are held. Signed parental permission is required.

“We thought that offering classes like this would be a wonderful way for young ladies to learn to dance — and stay in shape,” said Liz Jarret, RN, a Health Educator at Harrington. “No competition, no judgments, just learning that being active can be fun.”

Jarret came up with the idea of the class and applied for and received a grant for the program from Community Health Network Area 5 (CHNA 5) — an agency that covers the region served by Harrington Hospital. The grant allows a stipend to be paid to the dance instructor — Mickey Anderson, who also works in Harringtons Cardiac Care Center.
