SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. – May 27, 2016 – Harrington HealthCare System recently joined an elite list of hospitals across the nation to earn nine consecutive “A” grades–the highest letter grade available–from The Leapfrog Group, a national healthcare rating organization.
The score reflects more than two dozen safety measures, including how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries, and infections. The measures are then combined to produce a single letter-grade.
Scores are released twice per year, however this spring’s scores are made up of new factors, including patient satisfaction outcomes, like nurse communication, doctor communication and communication about discharge, as well as infection measures.
Harrington is one of only 98 hospitals nationwide and only one of 13 in Massachusetts to achieve nine consecutive A’s since the scoring began in 2012.
“To be one in less than 100 hospitals in the country to consistently score high marks for hospital safety says a lot about our decision to keep patients safe every day within the Harrington HealthCare System,” said President and CEO Ed Moore.
The Leapfrog Group was established in 2000, a nonprofit organization which strives to “increase transparency among health care providers in order to reduce the estimated 440,000 annual deaths from hospital errors, accidents, and injuries.”
The latest Leapfrog rating is one of a number Harrington’s quality and patient safety accolades.
