Harrington HealthCare, MEMA and Tri-Epic Coalition to Conduct Hazardous Materials Disaster Drill

SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. – September 26, 2016 – Harrington HealthCare System, MEMA and the Tri-EPIC Coalition will conduct a disaster drill on Saturday, October 1 called “Operation CERT SCRUB,” in order to validate the Harrington HealthCare at Webster hazardous materials decontamination plan and the hazardous materials response plans for the Tri-EPIC communities of Southbridge, Charlton, Sturbridge, Dudley and Oxford. The drill will begin at Harrington’s Webster Campus at 7 a.m. and conclude at Harrington Hospital in Southbridge at 4:30 p.m. following a post-drill review.

The scenario for the drill will be a hazardous materials incident in the Town of Webster in which actor/patients are brought to Harrington HealthCare at Webster for decontamination and triage before being transported by EMS to Harrington Hospital in Southbridge. Standard fire and safety regulations will be followed during the exercise and the sponsor organization will coordinate with local emergency medical services in the event of a real-world emergency. This exercise is a “Hybrid” TTX at multiple Worcester County locations. Exercise play is limited to agreed participants but local residents are invited to observe the decontamination exercise which is schedule for 9 am at Harrington’s Webster campus.The drill is being conducted in collaboration with the Tri-EPIC communities, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Central MA Disaster Animal Response team (CMDART); the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services and Boston University School of Medicine Emergency Healthcare Management Program (BU HEM).
