Harrington Names New Physicians to Wound Care Center

CHARLTON, Mass. – January 4, 2016 – The Wound Care Center at Harrington, located at 10 N. Main Street in Charlton, has welcomed three new physicians. All the doctors are available for consultations and appointments for patients with chronic, hard-to-heal wounds.

Dr. Stephen Hilborn, Dr. Thomas Canto, and Dr. Thomas Johnson joined the center in November, each bringing a specialized approach to general wound care and surgical services.

They join Dr. Ravindra Acharya and Podiatrist Dr. Georgios Poniros, who have been Wound Care Center physicians for several years, and who will continue to see patients.

Dr. Stephen Hilborn, a board certified general surgeon and wound care specialist, joined Harrington Physician Services (HPS) General Surgery Department earlier this year. Dr. Hilborn received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He most recently worked at the Center for Wound Care Healing in Brattleboro, VT, and is a member of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Thomas Canto, a board certified general surgeon who specializes in varicose vein treatment, comes to Harrington from Baystate Wing Hospital with 28 years of experience in general surgery. He received his medical degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in North Carolina. He has also worked at several other hospitals in North and South Carolina and Virginia.

Dr. Thomas Johnson, board certified in general surgery, also comes to Harrington from Baystate Wing Hospital and has more than 20 years of experience. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr. Johnson has also worked at Beverly Surgical Associates, Albany Medical Center, and Boston University Medical Center, where he completed his residency.

The Wound Care Center at Harrington offers patients access to state-of-the-art outpatient clinical wound care and hyperbaric medicine. Physicians and staff use a multidisciplinary approach, including clinical treatments, therapies, and supportive services. Non-healing wounds can be associated with certain medical conditions such as diabetes, poor circulation, and immobility.

The Wound Care Center was recently named a Center of Distinction by Healogics, which partners with Harrington to provide advanced healing technologies including hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
