Harrington Achieves ACR Accreditation in Three Diagnostic Imaging Modalities

SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass., Nov. 22, 2011 — Harrington HealthCare System has achieved accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR) for three of its advanced Diagnostic Imaging modalities – computed tomography (CT), nuclear medicine, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

“Earning ACR accreditation in one specific service is a huge accomplishment, but achieving accreditation in three of our biggest Diagnostic Imaging modalities reflects highly upon the quality of imaging Harrington HealthCare System offers,” said Kathy Franco-Anthony, Director of Imaging Services.

Harrington offers CT scanning at its Webster and Southbridge campuses; nuclear medicine in Webster and Southbridge, and MRI at its Charlton and Southbridge locations.

The recent accolades follow previously-achieved ACR accreditations in Digital Mammography, which is offered at all three campuses, and Stereotactic Mammography at its Southbridge campus.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.

The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
