Harrington Helps Break Ground for Habitat Home in Sturbridge

SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. – April 12, 2011 – Harrington HealthCare System officials joined with other organizations and personnel from Habitat for Humanity to break ground Saturday, April 9, for a home in Sturbridge for a family in need.

Harrington HealthCare System is a Copper Hammer Sponsor of the build. The healthcare system, anchored by Harrington Hospital in Southbridge, is offering not only a financial donation but also will gather a group of Harrington volunteers to help construct the home, located on 79 Fairview Park Road, off Route 131 in Sturbridge.

Wielding shovels for groundbreaking from Harrington were President and CEO Edward H. Moore and Anthony Detarando, a member of the Harrington Board of Directors who has helped build five Habitat homes throughout the world.

The Habitat Tri-Community Build Project in Sturbridge is the product of a partnership between the Town of Sturbridge, the Sturbridge Housing Partnership and Habitat for Humanity – MetroWest/Greater Worcester (HFH-MW/GW). The Sturbridge Housing Partnership purchased the land using Community Preservation funds specifically to increase the affordable housing inventory in town.

The project is a 1,200 square-foot, single-family home designed as a raised-ranch with three bedrooms and one and one half bathrooms. The structure will be detailed and landscaped in a manner compatible with neighboring homes.
