Laboratories Receives Accreditation from College Of American Pathology

WEBSTER, Mass., April 11, 2012 – The Harrington HealthCare System Laboratory in Southbridge and Webster have been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of recent onsite inspections.

Harringtons Laboratorys Director, Lanu V. Stoddart, M.D., was advised of the national recognition and congratulated for the “excellence of the services being provided.” The Harrington laboratories are part of approximately 7,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide.

“We are pleased to have received this award for the excellence of our service,” Dr. Stoddart said. “We work hard to maintain the highest standards in our laboratory. It is just one of the many ways Harrington shows its commitment to Total Local Care in the communities we serve as we continue to ensure the highest standard of care for our patients.”

The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program began in the early 1960s and is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the governments own inspection program.

During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratorys records and the quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine staff qualifications, the laboratory equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as overall management of the laboratory. The stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients.
