Laboratories Receives Accreditation From College Of American Pathologists

SOUTHBRIDGE/WEBSTER, Mass. – March 5, 2010 – The Harrington Hospital Laboratory in Southbridge and Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard Laboratory in Webster have been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologist (CAP), based on the results of recent onsite inspections.

Harringtons laboratorys director, Kathryn Anestis, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the “excellence of the services being provided.” The Harrington laboratories are part of approximately 7,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide.

“We are pleased to have received this award for the excellence of our service,” Anestis said. “We work hard to maintain the highest standards in our laboratory. It is just one of the many ways Harrington shows its commitment to Total Local Care in the communities we serve.”

The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the governments own inspection program.

During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratorys records and the quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine staff qualifications, the laboratory equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as overall management of the laboratory. The stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients.

“We are honored to receive this distinction as we continue to ensure the highest standard of care for our patients,” said Dr. Lanu Stoddart, director of Harringtons Medical Laboratory.
