CHARLTON, Mass., November 8, 2013 – The Wound Care Center at Harrington is hosting a free Diabetic Education Open House on Thursday, November 21, at the Wound Care Center, 10 North Main Street in Charlton, to help educate the public about diabetes, its symptoms and how to manage the chronic disease.
The Open House, held from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., will offer information about proper nutrition, foot care, diabetes and vision, general education on diabetes, and how to treat hard-to-heal wounds.
In addition, Harringtons Nutrition Department will offer light, nutritious refreshments and dietary tips. Those in attendance can also receive a free glucose screening.
The event is being held to help commemorate National Diabetes Month, which runs through the end of November.
Diabetes is a chronic disease that requires medical attention. The patient must also manage the disease, said Lynn Boucher, Director of the Wound Care Center at Harrington, which is housed at Harrington HealthCare at Charlton, conveniently located on Route 20, across from the CVS.
Some diabetes facts: Two-thirds of people with diabetes have mild to severe forms of nerve damage. One in four people with diabetes develop foot complications. And diabetics are 10 times more likely to have a limb amputated than non-diabetics.
Harringtons Open House will be staffed by the nurses, clinicians and physicians at the Wound Care Center at Harrington.
