SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. – September 22, 2010 – Harrington HealthCare System is launching The Breast Center at Harrington, a multidisciplinary center designed to give patients the best available breast care, all at one location, from a team of medical experts.
“We believe that patients in Central Massachusetts should not have to travel long distances, to multiple locations, to receive exceptional medical care,” said Harrington President and CEO Edward H. Moore. “That is why we have launched The Breast Center at Harrington. Harrington has gathered a team of experts in a variety of fields who will meet with patients and collaboratively map out a plan of care tailored to their unique medical needs. Its all part of our mission of TLC – Total Local Care.”
The Breast Center at Harrington will treat patients with a variety of symptoms and conditions, including breast pain, cysts, lumps, and cancer.
A group of medical and surgical specialists will meet with the patient and then meet as a group to develop a plan of care to be presented to the patient. A nurse navigator who is part of the team will help coordinate the patients complete course of treatment in order to provide seamless services.
The Breast Center at Harrington includes medical specialists from a variety of disciplines, such as medical and radiation oncology, general surgery, breast surgery, plastic/reconstructive surgery, pathology, mammography, social work and nursing. The Breast Center and The Thoracic Center at Harrington, a similar center focusing on thoracic medical issues, are located at The Cancer Center at Harrington, a free-standing cancer treatment center on the Harrington Hospital campus in Southbridge. Patients will be able to receive all treatment for their medical issues at Harringtons Southbridge campus.
“A diagnosis of breast disease can be stressful,” said Diane Becquart, Director of The Cancer Center at Harrington. “By bringing together a team of experts from multiple disciplines, we are able to offer the patient coordination and convenience. Patients will be able to receive a comprehensive treatment plan from our team and will have the help of a nurse navigator to coordinate her care.”
